White work
The International Museum of Collage, Assemblage and Construction is organizing an exhibition of White-on-White works. It's really interesting to work in the absence of every other color - every minor variation in tone becomes more important. Take a look at the work collected so far. I just finished mine and will send it off tomorrow. What a challenge to work with such a limited palette!

There will be a full-color (if it's an all white exhibit is that an oxymoron?) catalog of the exhibit.

White IS a color.
White is "not a color" when you're talking about light;
when you're talking about other media, white is a color.

And I thought I'd be called on my use of black...
No, not the black, there's something about white, unrelieved white, that is unsettling. In Ch 42 of Moby Dick, Ishmael says: "It was the whiteness of the whale that above all things appalled me." Several of the folks whose work is posted at the link relieved the white with bits of strong color.
OK, so what's up with the BLACK?! Just kidding.
This piece is so wonderful it almost makes one want to escape the lure of color just to revel in those lovely textures and crisp prints. I don't say this very often, but this is something I wish I had done.
