Printed Fabric Bee - Insects theme
I am the "Queen Bee" for the month of August of the Printed Fabric Bee group. That means that I got to choose the theme and the size for the fabric this month. Naturally, I chose insects as my theme.
Each of the Printed Fabric Bee members have made a 6" square fabric for me to giveaway to a lucky reader. If you would like to win these lovely fabrics, please leave a comment on this blog post, or on the Printed Fabric Bee blog before August 15 for a chance to win. Buzz on over!
Check out a sampling of the creative fabrics made by the members in this month's collage.
The guidelines to go along with my insect theme this month were an artist's choice of colors, with a touch of black. For my own fabric, I started by painting a solid white fabric with a wash of diluted Liquitex ink, then printed the hexagonal shapes on top with a yellow ochre Neopaque acrylic paint, and finally added the bees with another block print and a black Neopaque acrylic paint. Bees are among my favorite insects for their industriousness, their strong community, and the beauty in the function of their honeycombs. What is your favorite insect and why?
Check out the other Bee member's blogs for insights into their favorite insects too!

Love the bees but they are all beautiful!
Beautiful fabric! I'd love a chance to win.
My bug is lonely. I need more bug-friends for her.
I also like bees, and provide a variety of flowers for them in my garden. The fabric you've created is bee-utiful! :-)
these are are so great and so much fun.
I am a fan of the bee, mostly because without them we would not have flowers! Looks like you have been buzzzzy around the hive, creating your fun fabrics!
Yikes insects. It could be inspiration for a quilt for a brother-in-law who loves everything that is insect. The fabrics look great, and don't bite.
Love the bees!!

These fabrics look great! In real life, I'm not a fan of insects, but in the quilt world, I like bees, ladybugs, and such.
My favorite insect is a praying mantis. Their little praying hands look as if they are clapping while wearing mittens!

I love reading the process descriptions just as much as seeing the final products. Thanks!
This is so awesome! I love the posts!
I love your bees. They are wonderful.
I love your dramatic bees! Thanks so much for the chance to win this great collection. My favorite insects are fireflies. I sit on my porch at night and watch them. It's one of the things that makes me appreciate summer.

Enjoy seeing the fabric created for each of these challenges. Love the background on your bees piece!
Hi Jane... Here in my area, the bugs that drive us crazy like black flies have gone, and the lovely dragonflies, and the BEES we need so badly for farming are here, but so many fewer than in the past! Thanks - this is a fun palette of fabric! Great job and isn't the yellows palette perfect! Awesome...

hard for me to choose a favorite insect, but maybe it is the Luna moth... i wish i could some time see such a beautiful Butterfly in Person, they don´t live in our Country, what i really regret.
thanks for the Chance to win and have a great summer!
I've just discovered Deborah's Journal blog and read about her insects and her process. This is all new to me and very interesting. What fun it would be to win and challenge myself with the pieces. Thanks very much.
I would love to be in this drawing - the other blog won't let me add a comment (Blogger seems to resent my Typepad signin), so I'm trying one here. Sigh!
I love hand designed fabrics and also have a great interest in 'bugs' so these fabrics really appeal to me.

I love the bugs. Have always been fascinated by them close up in videos or in picture -- not necessarily in person (ugh). Just watched a video of a butterfly caterpillar turn into a cocoon in less than five minutes -- amazing.
Love your bees and the whole process! They have always held my interest because of how beneficial they are to the food chain. And the fact that they make interesting subjects!
Wonderful blocks this month!! I would be delighted to have a chance to win these!
I sent your articles links to all my contacts and they all love it including me. wordpress themes
